Fly over Bromsgrove!
Welcome to the archive.
In these pages I've placed some of the Javascript animations I've played with over the last few years. The first stop for oldies is The Vault, where things are placed without any tidying up (now zipped to release a bit of space). As I've learnt more over the years my writing style has changed and I would not use the same methods these days as I did then, indeed some of them no longer work properly.
Occasionally I add newly written stuff.
I've used various web technologies to produce effects and animations:
- DHTML Experiments in visual effects and animation with (fairly) standard DHTML. Some of these use Microsoft extensions such as filters and transitions, so will always be IE only. Those that do not may one day end up cross-browser, though I doubt it as life is short.
- DirectAnimation This is an IE only technology that thus far has not seen an equivalent to replace it. The DA demos probably have a limited shelf life as DA is no longer supported by Microsoft and already needs some old dll files added to restore functions lost in Windows XP.
- VML A rather useful xml application that allows vector graphics to be defined from within a web page. As far as I know it is only supported by IE, though it is an open standard. Its must really be described as 'obsolescent' now that there is an SVG standard, though native support by a major browser keeps its head just above water.
- Other possibilities I haven't done anything with these yet, but there is scope here for SVG, VRML, Alambik, Java, and Flash. I particularly like methods that support 3D animation, so I'll put anything interesting I come up with in here somewhere.
As well as the animation pages there is also other miscellaneous trivia dumped here, whatever the flavour of the month is.
